THANK YOU FROM THE FAMILY OF Jon (Whoop) Anderson

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of our family, friends, neighbors and community during this most difficult time. Your phone calls, texts, visits, words of comfort, donations of memorials, donations of food and your support are greatly appreciated. We need to thank Everett and Wing-Bain Funeral Home for their wonderful care and support shown to our family. We also need to thank Pastor John McCosh and Rock Haven Church for a beautiful and touching memorial service. Also a huge thank you to pastor John McCosh for being with us and supporting us this last year. It gives us some peace to receive such blessings from the community that Jon loved so much.

The family of John Rice would like to thank everyone for their prayers, cards, visits, flowers memorials, and food donations brought to our homes at the time of the loss of our husband, father, and grand - father. A special thank you to Tim Velde for the beautiful service and support throughout this difficult time. Thank you also to Pastor David Christensen, Pastor Steve Quist, and Pastor Kelly Wasberg for their visits and words of comfort; to the pallbearers, the YMLC Service Group for serving the lunch after the funeral, the organist, Sunset Funeral Home, Avera Hospice, and the Granite Falls VFW and Legion and the Hanley Falls Legion for providing military honors at the funeral. Your kindness will always be remembered.

Beyond Reason

Mother’s Day is the one day a year when Mother gets to put her feet up and is waited on hand and foot by her minion. Father brings her an iced coffee, just the way she likes it. The children deliver the remote control, blankets, and a snack. Uninterrupted, Mother watches an entire episode of BBC-produced British period piece on PBS. It is pure bliss.

More seasonal weather on the way

It was not one of those weekends to write home about as it was wet and chilly. Some locations picked up nearly 2.00 inches of rain. Rainfall amounts of .50 to 1.25 inches were very common throughout the state. All of this rain this spring, and the snow this past winter, has put the drought behind us for pretty much the entire state of Minnesota, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. For those who have not been happy with our chilly and wet spring, this has been the one silver lining in all of this crazy weather.

Volunteers gather to clean up trash in Memorial Park

The Granite Falls Green Team met with community volunteers on Saturday for a trash pick-up afternoon around the Yellow Medicine County Museum and Highway 23, as well as Memorial Park. Organizer Nicole Zempel said the event was a great success, with 13 people collecting around twenty 30-gallon trash bags from surrounding ditches, outcrops and river banks.

From the Editor’s Desk

A staple of my time in journalism is apparently attending the Minnesota’s Machinery Museum annual meeting. In all of my history in newspapers around the area, the one event that I have attended each year that I was involved in newspapers has been this particular meeting.
