Beyond Reason

Man vs Golf You know how sometimes you go to visit your parents but you don’t want to stay with them because, you know, they’re your parents? So you decide to stay nearby, but not that nearby because, well, they’re your parents? But it’s also spring break for the kiddos so you dish out a little more scratch than usual and stay not just at a hotel but a resort with a full-on water park, with lots of pools and water slides galore? And you know how the first few days are good, clean family fun, swimming during the days, seeing the folks in the evening but then you learn that the resort offers something else and that something else is… golf? And you know how halfway through your stay, the PGA walks in like they own the joint? I hate it when that happens. One minute, parking is first come first serve, the next it’s: Are you with the Open? Oh, you’re not with the Open.

YME Trap team meets in cold, windy conditions

The YME Trap Team shot in freezing, windy conditions Sunday, April 3rd. As you can see, the shooters are bundled up, but they got their rounds in before the snowfall. They shot very well considering and we are very proud of their determination. Safety is always the first priority so when there is a gun jammed, Head Coach Jeff Berthelsen steps right up to the shooter to figure out the issue. Fix or replace what is needed so the athlete can continue to shoot and finish their round. Athletes are not allowed to leave their stations on the field when there is an issue. All athletes enter and leave the field at the same time in formation.

YME teacher starts baking business

Robyn Aslesen, a teacher at Yellow Medicine East, first started baking custom cakes for her own wedding in 2014. Being pleased with the results, she began adding in a few more wedding and graduation cakes over the years. By the end of 2021, her three-yearold son began helping Aslesen with her baking. “He wanted to bake more than we were able to eat,” she says. “When I mentioned that to him, his response was – mom, you should sell some!” Thus, Aslesen says, it was that idea from her child that planted the seed of inspiration to move the business forward. Within a week of his suggestion, Aslesen says she applied for and received her Minnesota Cottage Food Producer license, and Tasty Bakes and Custom Cakes was born.

From the Editor’s Desk

As April 1st draws near, one of my favorite holidays on the horizon, I can’t help but think about my grandfather. You see, if any of you ever traveled to Hanley Falls and visited any of his businesses - Stölen Foods, Stölen Guns, Stölen Antiques, Stölen Construction and whatever other businesses he had going on over the years that I may have forgotten about, then you may have found yourself the victim of a prank. Certainly, none of the ladies that gathered in the mornings for coffee in the “cafe” side of Stölen Foods was safe from his antics.

YME Trap Team welcomes new members

The YME Trap Team welcomes five new athletes for this 2022 Spring season. All but one athlete was allowed to shoot their first 50 rounds. I bet you are wondering why there is one that does not get to shoot yet? Although he has obtained his firearm safety certificate number, he also needs to be 12-years of age. He is still a part of the team and went through all the new athlete motions just like the others and will be shooting soon. (Left to Right) Sarana West, Aidan Martin, Mathias Vonderharr, Archer Schmidt and Mario Ochoa. Watch for more Trap Team news in next week’s newspaper.
