Senior Center undergoes upgrades over the past year

Over the last year, the Granite Falls Senior Center has undergone a number of improvements to make the facility not only more functional but more appealing. Updates include installing new flooring, allowing for the floor to be seamless, without tripping hazards, and easier to clean up, with a slip-free surface. There was also a complete paint makeover in all of the rooms within, and new kitchen cupboards and countertops. Senior Advocate and Senior Center Coordinator Jan Lerohl also notes that the kitchen now has a stainless steel serving table.

As the weather finally gives us a break, it seems everyone is playing catch-up. Many events are now taking place, many evenings are spent out covering sports events for the schools. It would seem I spend more time in my car than my house.

YME softball team defeats Ortonville

Last week, the Yellow Medicine East girls varsity Softball team took on both MACCRAY and Ortonville, taking a 12-8 victory over Ortonville. In that game, leaders included Atrinity Tipton who was 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run, while Bayli Sneller scored two hits, two RBIs, two runs and two stolen bases.

Local models featured in current photography exhibit

The newest exhibit open in the Granite Area Arts Council gallery is called “Chiaroscuro”, pronounced “kee·aa•ruh·skyur·ow” - an Italian artistic term to describe the arrangement of light and dark, darkness and light together. The exhibit is entirely photographs of local community members in designed sets and costumes.

Striding into the future . . .

In the coming weeks, high school seniors across the country will don caps and gowns and proudly walk across a stage to receive a diploma in the culmination of a 13-year goal that has taken the support of many people along the way in order to achieve it. Seniors, your family, in particular, has been with you every step of the way and I hope you thank them.
