Congratulations to Ben Albertson who was Track Champion in the Streeter class at the Fiesta City Speedway in Montevideo this last racing season! Ben’s son Landon stood in for Ben to receive his trophy at the racing banquet as Ben was attending his daughter Kayleigh’s dance competition in Brookings, SD last Saturday. The Lakeview Mystiques that Kayleigh Albertson dances with got 1st place in the Brookings, SD Just for Kix Competiton last Saturday.

OF THE WEEK Submitted by Myrna Stölen A note from Myrna: These are like little pieces of pie and just the right size for this rich dessert. Pecan Pie Bars 1 cup and 1 tbsp flour 1/2 cups oatmeal 3/4 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup butter 3 eggs 3/4 cup dark corn syrup 1 cup broken pecans 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/8 teaspoon salt Mix together 1 cup flour, oats, 1/4 cup brown sugar and butter until particles are fine (with mixer, use low speed).

Letters to the Editor

Curt Holt, former Football Coach and teacher at GFHS from 1956 to 1961 passed away on February 4th. The funeral date has not been set. Curt and his wife moved from California to Plymouth, Minnesota a few years ago. His wife passed away three years ago. If you have any questions, please call me at 320-564-3937.

Another potential storm on the way

This has been a very active month for snowfall so far in Minnesota. Of course, we told you at the start of the month that the 30 Day Outlook was calling for below normal temperatures but above normal precipitation for the month of March.

River Ramblings…

There have been some remarkable people in rural Minnesota over many years, but none are more interesting or may have impacted more lives than the late Dr. Kathleen Jordan. A bright and spirited woman with a can-do attitude, she was responsible for the testing of thousands of youngsters for the dreaded disease of tuberculosis in our part of Minnesota.

Ask a Trooper

Question: Are smoked tail lights illegal in Minnesota? Answer: Minnesota law states that “tail lamps shall be plainly visible from a distance of 100 feet to the rear during normal sunlight and at night.” The same goes for turn signals and headlights. Smoking, tinting, covering or placing any material over tail lights, brake lights, headlights or turn signals would be illegal and unsafe as they would not be plainly visible.

Bengtson to exhibit photography at Granite Arts Council

Sharla Bengtson is a local photographer from the Granite Falls area. She’s also known locally as the “Lefse Queen” as well as dressing up as clowns with her husband, Doug, for summer parades. Bengtson has an upcoming photography exhibit that will be on display at the KK Berge building from March 29th – April 29th.
