YME boys basketball team ends season

Over the weekend, the Yellow Medicine East boys varsity basketball team took on Dawson-Boyd in the Section 3A-North tournament in Montevideo for a 3776 loss. Leaders in the game included Bryce Sneller who scored 16 points with seven rebounds and three blocks, while Owen Torvik added another nine points to the team total.

Xcel Energy seeks comment on proposed transmission infrastructure project

Last week, representatives from Xcel Energy hosted an informational open house at the Kilowatt Community Center in Granite Falls in order to present information on the proposed routes for an upcoming transmission infrastructure project to serve Upper Midwest customers. In addition to the information available by way of fliers distributed talking about the construction process, working with landowners, and electric and magnetic fields, Xcel Energy provided rows of large printed maps for landowners to see where their property is in relation to any of the 15 proposed routes. The community also had the opportunity to provide feedback in written format that will be taken into consideration when Xcel settles on which of the proposed routes to use.

Citizens Alliance Bank in merger with Granite Mountain Bank

With over 200 employees across multiple locations, Citizens Alliance Bank focuses on small towns, family- owned businesses, and the local communities where their branches are located. Locally, Citizens Alliance Bank has locations in both Montevideo and Granite Falls, where they offer agricultural, commercial, and personal banking done locally.

County hires new Social Services Supervisor

Also at the meeting, Rae Ann Keeler-Aus was in attendance to give the report from Yellow Medicine County Human Services. Of note in the report was a discussion with regards to federal funds received by multiple county agencies to assist with addressing opioid addiction issues. Human Services directors from the 6W Community Corrections counties - including Swift, Big Stone, Chippewa, Yellow Medicine, Lac qui Parle have been meeting on a quarterly basis with a representative from Countryside Public Health, as well as Midge Christensen from 6W Community Corrections in order to discuss how best to use the funds. The initial amount the group will be receiving is $90,772.

Cherry Streusel Bars 2/3 Cup Butter 2 Cups Flour 1/2 Cup Sugar 1 Can Cherry Pie Filling 1/2 Cup Coconut or Chopped Nuts Cut butter into flour and sugar, and mix until particles are fine (low speed on mixer).
