“Dessert Frenzy” fundraiser to be held in March

For the first time since Hope Harbor first opened in Marshall in 2005, a fundraiser for the ministry-based organization is being planned in Montevideo. Hope Harbor’s Executive Director Cindy McKittrick, who moved to Montevideo last year, decided it would be a good opportunity to spread the word about Hope Harbor’s mission in the local area, thus Cindy and her husband Wade will be hosting the event at the River Crest Golf Club on March 30th. “I just thought it would be a really fun way to introduce people to Hope Harbor. We can serve teens from this area, and a lot of churches and organizations support us in this area. So it’s an opportunity for the local community to learn more about the ministry,” McKittrick says.

Locals weigh in on the lefse debate

Lefse! Whether it’s one of the tastiest morsels of food to ever hit your mouth or you can’t stop wondering why people eat it at all, lefse is a tradition here in the Midwest. With three different types of lefse to choose from, there is Tynnlefse (thin lefse) which is traditionally rolled with sugar, cinnamon, and butter inside; there is Potelefse (potato lefse) which is the same as Tynnlefse, except it’s made with 100% potatoes or a mix of wheat flour and potatoes; and then there is Tykkelefse (thick lefse) which is often served as cake with coffee.
