From the Editor’s Desk

My youngest child decided recently that she wanted to become a dog mom. She wanted her very own pet that would be just hers. So when one of her friend’s families adopted a dog for their grandmother, only to find out she didn’t, in fact, want a dog, my child volunteered to re-home the dog. Thus, another rescue animal joined the household, which should probably now be called a zoo.

“I waited patiently for the Lord.” (Psalm 40:1)

I had felt that nudge, that tugging on my gut before. The nudge that is commonly referred to as a call from God. I was going to push it aside again, like I had before. It just wasn’t the right time. I was doing well in my current career, maybe I was just hungry. But this time, that tugging didn’t go away. I was compelled to dig in and see what was possible to make this “plan of God’s” happen. After I had given it a lot of thought, gone through the pros and cons, prayed on it over and over, I “told God” I would be ready for this in about a year, but I couldn’t see how that was going to work out in “my plans” of what I wanted to do. I got anxious. I didn’t know how to make what I thought I should do really happen. I got impatient. That tugging was there, but I was becoming unsure.

Beyond Reason

To write about a thing, like, say, I don’t know, hypothetically, an ode, you might really want to have an intimate knowledge of the thing. Or perhaps you might want to really get to know thing, so you spend hours and days and weeks researching the thing. Or you might chat with experts, folks that spend their life studying the vicissitudes of the thing.

Live Well, Age Wisely:

When I was first learning about Medicare, I found the name Part C very confusing. When a person is first enrolling in Medicare, they sign up for Parts A and B through the Social Security Administration.

Notes from the Granite Area Arts Council The column returns!

Welcome back to Notes from the Granite Area Arts Council! I’ve returned from my brief vacation, which I frankly regretted taking – writing this column would have been a welcome distraction from getting snowed in repeatedly on our farm this December. Hope you were able to make it out into the world, that you had a pleasant holiday season, and that your chickens – if you have them – are still alive. (Ours are, multiple blizzards later. Color me surprised.)
