Welcome back to Notes from the Granite Area Arts Council! I’ve returned from my brief vacation, which I frankly regretted taking – writing this column would have been a welcome distraction from getting snowed in repeatedly on our farm this December. Hope you were able to make it out into the world, that you had a pleasant holiday season, and that your chickens – if you have them – are still alive. (Ours are, multiple blizzards later. Color me surprised.)

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is hosting candlelight events across the state this winter, including one at Lac qui Parle State Park on Saturday, February 4th, 2023. Drop by any time between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to hike to the historic warming shelter as stars twinkle overhead and candles flicker in the snow.

Following the snow of last week, we had high pressure move-in for the weekend with light winds and lots of sunshine. With the light winds, we had some freezing frost in the morning which brought some travel concerns due to visibility down to one mile or less at times.
Thursday, January 12th: Granite Area Arts Council reception for artist Maya Ulrich. Maya’s exhibit on display from January 2nd to January 28th. Reception will be held at 7 p.m. at the Granite Area Arts Council, 807 Prentice Street.
Granite Falls is offering a variety of winter entertainment opportunities from January 28th through February 4th with the return of the Ole and Lena Days Mid-Winter Celebration. The week of festivities begins Saturday, Jan. 28th, when the Granite Falls Area Chamber of Commerce hosts their Mid-Winter Celebration and Fundraiser titled “Carnival Mardi Gras” at The Rock Dining & Entertainment Center. Tickets are on sale now for the event that includes dinner as well as entertainment by Divas Through the Decades. There will also be a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and Heads or Tails game. The event begins at 6 pm with social hour, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and entertainment at 8 pm. To purchase tickets, call the Granite Falls Area Chamber of Commerce at 320- 321-3202. The event raises funds to help support Chamber events throughout the year.
When I was first learning about Medicare, I found the name Part C very confusing. When a person is first enrolling in Medicare, they sign up for Parts A and B through the Social Security Administration.
