Resolve for the New Year This time of year, everyone’s talking about one thing: how much collective weight we put on in December. (I know I did my part.) On a related note, they’re also talking about New Year’s Resolutions or NYRs as no one calls them.

La Plazita restaurant coming to Granite Falls

In a press release sent by the Granite Falls Economic Development Authority this week, it was announced that the City of Granite Falls has entered into an agreement with Rafael Nunez to purchase the former Dallas II site on Highway 212.

From the Editor’s Desk

The weather the last two weeks, I swear, was out to get me. Each day that there were events planned to be covered for the paper, and tasks that must be done on specifically those days, the weather lashed out and made everything come to a standstill. With canceled events, canceled interviews, meetings, sports, and more, we were left with two weeks in a row having early deadlines, and struggling for content.

Wanda Lee

Wanda Lee, 61, of Marshall, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa and Granite Falls, died Wednesday, December 28, 2022, in Marshall. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 10 a.m.

“Love and Paranoia” on exhibit througout January

The current artist on display at the KK Berge building in the main artist’s gallery, Maya Ulrich, grew up in the Renville area with another wellknown local artist, Tamara Isfeld, as her art teacher. Ulrich also grew up with artist parents who cultivated a creative environment for her to grow, learn, and evolve.

Thursday, January 12th: Granite Area Arts Council reception for artist Maya Ulrich. Maya’s exhibit on display from January 2nd to January 28th. Reception will be held at 7 p.m. at the Granite Area Arts Council, 807 Prentice Street.

A look back at the 2022 weather

We are now into 2023 as we welcomed in the new year on Sunday. With it being a a brand new year, it is time to look back at the year that was when it came to the weather.

Jeanette Hendrickson

Jeanette Hendrickson, 95, of Montevideo passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo. A funeral service was held Friday, December 30, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls. Visitation was from 9 - 10 a.m. at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service. Jeanette Corinne Hendrickson was born October 9, 1927, the daughter of John and Clara Tofte in Appleton. She was baptized and confirmed at Drywood Lutheran Church in rural Appleton. She grew up on a farm in Swift County near Drywood Lake. Jeanette is a graduate of Appleton High School. She continued her education at Moorhead State University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She taught in several area schools. Her final years of teaching were spent in Granite Falls where she and her husband Donald Hendrickson resided. Jeanette enjoyed traveling, having traveled to Hawaii, Mexico, Bermuda, various areas of United States and Canada. She also spent two months touring 18 countries in Europe. After retirement she enjoyed being a homemaker, assisting family members and spending time with her friends. She was an active member of Granite Falls Lutheran Church where she taught Bible School for several years and was also a member of the Altar Guild for a number of years. She is survived by her sister Arlene Grube of Appleton; brother Richard Tofte of Morris; and several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, her parents and sister Doris Nelson.

Louis Roden

Louis Roden, 88, of Granite Falls passed away January 3, 2023, at Granite Falls Care Center in Granite Falls. A Memorial Mass Service will be held Thursday, January 12, 2023, at 11 a.m.

Lorraine Hamre

Lorraine Hamre, 84, of Granite Falls passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at the Granite Falls Hospital. A Memorial service is being planned for the spring. Arrangements are with Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Granite Falls. For online guestbook, please visit, www.wingbain.com.
