Jesus said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.” These words of Jesus often reminds me of Paul Simon’s song “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” I read that when Paul Simon wrote this song he was inspired by a line from the 1958 gospel song “Mary Don’t You Weep”. The line of inspiration was “I’ll be your bridge over deep water if you trust in my name.” In John 14, the disciples were worried. Jesus was leaving and they didn’t want to be left alone. They finally believed, they understood the gracious love of God through Jesus, he was their friend and now he was going to leave them. But Jesus comforts them and tells them not to worry, but to believe.
