Belview, Minnesota author Teresa Peterson will discuss her new book, Perennial Ceremony: Lessons and Gifts from a Dakota Garden (University of Minnesota Press, PUB DATE: June 18, 2024), at an event on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 7:00 PM at Granite Area Arts Council (807 Prentice Street, Granite Falls, MN 56241).In this rich collection of prose, poetry, and recipes, Teresa Peterson shares how she found refuge from the struggle to reconcile her Christianity and Dakota spirituality, discovering solace and ceremony in communing with the earth.

Upcoming listening sessions on child care licensing standards hosted by Southwest Initiative Foundation

The Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF) is inviting child care providers, economic development professionals, community leaders and champions of child care in southwest Minnesota to attend listening sessions to provide feedback on the draft licensing standards for family child care and child care centers published by the Department of Human Services (DHS) as part of the Child Care Regulation Modernization Projects.“One of the foundation’s priorities is supporting the growth and retention of child care programs in the region because we know access to quality child care is critical to community vitality and economic mobility,” said Briana Mumme, SWIF Economic Development Manager.

With the Fourth of July approaching, we would be wise to take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, and read (or reread) the Declaration of Independence and ponder how much the concerns and principles that are written in that document, apply, for good or bad, 248 years later.
