Charlene “Char” Gullickson, 72, of Granite Falls passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Avera Granite Falls Care Center in Granite Falls. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Interment will be held a later date. Charlene Louise Gullickson was born on August 6, 1950, to Lyle and Florence (Dagel) Ulven in Redwood Falls. She grew up in Belview and was baptized on September 10, 1950, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Granite Falls. Char graduated from Granite Falls High School. After high school, she attended Ridgewater College in Willmar and got her Human Service Technician Degree.

Marlene G. (Marly) Sandvig, 90, of Bloomington, formerly of Clarkfield and Minneapolis, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Our Lady of Peace Hospice in St.

NYBERG LELAND WHITE Dianne White (nee Hansen) was born on September 1, 1946, in Granite Falls to Ernest Hansen and Anne (Klein) Hansen, the 5th of eight children born to this union. On April 15, 2022, Dianne was welcomed into God’s hands.

From the Editor’s Desk

Sometimes we think we have more time than we do. As was the case with my entire week last week, planning to write this very column Sunday evening to allow for the week to play out enough that I may have something of local interest to talk about. Alas, sometimes the weekend goes to chaos, such as this one did for me, and Monday morning I’m struggling to collect a single, useful thought before the deadline for the first newspaper jumps up to grab this column that hasn’t yet been written.

Yellow Medicine East Prom 2023 held with rainy drive-up

This year’s annual Prom event at Yellow Medicine East High School was met with challenges as moments before the traditional drive-up began, rain poured from the sky. Guests braved the rain with umbrellas in tow to watch the students drive-up to enter the school for their evening of activities. The rain continued to pour, with some brief lightening before falling heavily again, ending towards the end of the drive-up portion of the evening.

Wrede returns to Bluenose for performance

South Dakota singer/songwriter Brady Wrede returned to Bluenose Gopher Public House downtown Friday evening for a second performance at the venue. Wrede performed there last summer, and returned with new music last week. On hand were also copies of all three of his EPs for sale. The concert was free to attend. The next event to be held at the venue will be Saturday, May 13th when Damen Tesch hosts the last performance of his Bluenose Music Residency. There will also be a grill-out from 5-8 p.m., with music beginning 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tesch is a singer/songwriter originally from Marshall who recently returned to the area after having traveled for the last 25 years.

Meet the vendors, part one in a series

A variety of vendors are returning, with some new vendors joining the mix for this season’s annual Makers Market series held on the Riverwalk in downtown Granite Falls. The first in the series takes place Thursday, June 1st from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
