OF THE WEEK Submitted by Myrna Stölen Sugar Cookies 1 egg - well beaten 1 cup sugar 1 cup shortening and butter 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 cup sifted flour 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/8 tsp salt Beat egg, add sugar and shortening, beat well. Slowly add in dry ingredients, mixing until combined.

Turkey hunting licenses on sale now

Turkey hunters can buy their licenses for the spring 2023 season starting Wednesday, March 1. Licenses may be purchased online (mndnr. gov/buyalicense), by telephone 888-665-4236 or in person wherever hunting and fishing licenses are sold. Hunters can hunt statewide and buy licenses for any time period (AF) over the counter.

Snow chances return Thursday

With all of the snow this winter, there remains a lot of talk about spring flooding across Minnesota and the Upper Midwest. The Twin Cities, St. Cloud, and Duluth have all seen top ten snowfall amounts recorded this winter with more snow still possible this season.

Question: What am I supposed to do if I am at a railroad crossing and need to report an emergency? Answer: Call 911 and provide the needed information. Every highway- rail crossing has an Emergency Notification System (ENS) sign that provides a 24/7/365 telephone number to report problems or emergencies at the railroad location.

Krasovska’s exhibit “Opposites in Harmony” opens downtown

“Opposites in Harmony” by international artist Olga Krasovska, who was born in the Ukraine and raised in Egypt, is the next upcoming exhibit in the main gallery of the Granite Area Arts Council in the K.K. Berge building located downtown. Krasovska will have her newest collection of large-sized, abstract textured paintings on display for the month of April.

DNR meets with County Commisioners over process to potentially return State Park land to Upper Sioux Community

At Tuesday morning’s meeting of the Yellow Medicine County Board of Commissioners, Scott Toemhildt, Regional Director of the Department of Natural Resources South Region Headquarters, and Ann Pierce, of the DNR’s State Parks and Trails Commission were in attendance to talk about the recent Legislation introduced after a request to return the land currently housing Upper Sioux State Park to the Upper Sioux Community.

Land Stewardship Project hosts Regional Food Forum

Last Thursday, the Land Stewardship Project (LSP), a private, non-profit organization founded in 1982, hosted a Regional Food Forum in Montevideo for local food advocates, producers, and professionals to gather for an informational and collaborative day of building community food networks.
