New Ridgewater-SWIF venture to expand childcare teachers for high-demand industry

Early childhood education workers had more incentive than ever to choose Ridgewater College to advance their careers this semester. A new partnership with the Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF) is providing up to $30,000 to assist with students’ tuition and program costs for a March-start cohort of 11 students.

Crowd gathers for one-man band

MG Bailey gave a lively, interactive performance during his live one-man band set at Bluenose Gopher Public House during the evening on Saturday, February 27th. Bailey took countless requests from the large audience that gathered to watch him perform, barefoot (socks at least) and all. Pop-up fashion show held downtown

Suree Sompamitwong held a pop-up fashion show art exhibit at The YES! House on Saturday evening. Her passion for fashion with a purpose was contagious as she mixed and mingled with every guest that came to her show. She spoke candidly about her journey with her mental health and bringing awareness to a subject that can be so difficult for people to bring up or discuss. Healthy Tip of the Week: When it comes to walking, there’s no magic formula for how many steps, miles, or hours you have to walk to lose the amount of weight that you want. Starting out, the key is to do more than you’re doing now. If you have a job where you’re on your feet all day, you have to do more than that. If you have a sedentary desk job, a walk every evening after dinner may show real results. A lot has been said about getting a baseline of about 10,000 steps a day for health reasons. If your goal is weight loss, you’ll likely want more than that once you get into a routine, but you don’t need to start there. Get your baseline first, and keep adding to that.

Area student named to Dean’s list

The Minnesota North College Dean’s list for Fall Semester 2022 has been announced. Congratulations to the following list of students that completed 12 or more credits while earning a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.25 or higher: Stacie Barron of Clarkfield.

Upcoming fashion pop-up to focus on mental health issues

Sureeporn Sompamitwong is an artist and fashion designer with an upcoming Pop-Up Fashion Show that is being held at The YES! House located in downtown Granite Falls on Saturday, February 25th from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. This special line of clothing is meant to bring greater awareness to mental health and the struggles that can often come with it.
