DNR celebrates EagleCam’s first decade

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is celebrating 10 years of the EagleCam, a popular annual livestream of a bald eagle nest in Minnesota. The first season of the DNR EagleCam began in January 2013, after the Nongame Wildlife Program installed a webcam in a tree next to an active bald eagle nest.

SMSU Women’s Leadership Conference

Southwest Minnesota State University Foundation will host its fourth Women’s Leadership Conference on Thurs., March 16, 2023 in the Conference Center Upper Level. The event is themed “Flourish, Grow, Lead,” and provides a full-day of programming and professional development geared to women.

Quad County Cobras compete in Section 3AA-North meet

Last Thursday evening, the Quad County Cobras (MACCRAY/Renville County West/Yellow Medicine East) wrestling team traveled to Dawson High School for the Section 3AA-North meet. Leaders in the meet were Austin Sweep (285) Jacob Savig (195) who both won by fall, while Mario Gradillas (106) added another win in the match-up against MAHACA (Morris Area/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta).

Orchestra concert Tuesday, February 28 at SMSU

The Southwest Minnesota Orchestra presents “A Night in Vienna: Music of Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms and the Strauss Family” on Tuesday, February 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Schwan Community Center for the Performing Arts at Marshall High School.

Southwest Initiative Foundation opens grant round for work to support kids and families

Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF) is offering Grow Our Own grants to support work related to creating prosperity for all southwest Minnesota kids and the communities they call home. Areas of focus for this grant round are early learning and development, strong and heathy families, K-12 engagement in and out of schools, vibrant and welcoming communities and pathways to meaningful work.

Restoring Wellness receives First Dollar award

The First Dollar Award was recently presented by the Granite Falls Chamber of Commerce to Restoring Wellness’s Tami Gabrielson. Twenty-three attend first ever class

Paul Drees is shown during the Cocktail Making class he hosted on Friday, February 17th at The YES! House. There were 23 people who attended the class and they made three drinks total (a gimlet, a whiskey sour, and a rum gimlet). Drees said, “Making cocktails is just another form of creativity. We’re all artists, and this is just one way to create something beautiful. Ultimately, mixing cocktails is about hospitality for me. It’s about showing a guest that they’re worthy of something ephemeral and beautiful. They are worth the time I put into the drink.”

YME AAA Award Winners announced

Established in 1988, the Academics, Arts, And Athletics Award is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League and is awarded to one boy and one girl from each member school. Representing YME this year are seniors Sanjana Pullan & Cody Dahlager. In addition to their top-notch academic records, both have been involved in a wide variety of activities.
