Letter to the Editor

While I no longer work for the City of Clarkfield, I still care for the community and I want to see the community grow and thrive in the future. To that end, I have decided to share some of my thoughts on future ways to enhance and better the community of Clarkfield.

From the Editor’s Desk

Punxsutawney Phil made his appearance last Thursday and predicted six more weeks of winter. The annual hoopla surrounding the Groundhog Day tradition seemed to pass with little enthusiasm locally. We are probably all ready for the snow melt to begin.

Beyond Reason

Kindling of a Kind January means colder weather which means we get to set things on fire! Okay. Best fire practices include a fire pit or, in my case, a fireplace.

Live Well, Age Wisely

I guess I’m a closet romantic – Valentine’s season (the first two weeks in February) has always been one of my favorite times of the year. The focus on love and showing others that we love them feels warm and wonderful.

Clarkfield

Sons of Norway will meet Feb. 11th Saturday at 2pm at the Granite Falls Kilowatt Center Clarkfield News My condolences to the family of Curtis Sannerud.

Notes from the Granite Area Arts Council

If you’re reading this on or shortly before Thursday, February 9th at 7pm, consider this your cordial invitation to the Makers on the Minnesota Gallery at that time, where the Arts Council will be hosting a joint reception for artists Krystl Louwagie and Corina Kells until 9pm.

Granite Falls Chamber News

February is here! Think Spring! And don’t forget about your Valentine on the 14th. January was busy at the Chamber office.

GUESS WHO?

Each week, the Advocate Tribune will share a photograph from our archives for you to “guess who”. To submit your guesses, send us a message by email to jstolen-jacobson@cherryroad.com or message our Facebook page. We will publish the answers the next week.

Ask a Trooper

Question: I was wondering if you are stopped at a stop light in the left turn lane and an emergency vehicle with lights and sirens come in behind you (either in the turn lane or the lane to your right), what is the proper procedure? Thank you! Answer: When it comes to encountering emergency vehicles while stopped at a stop light and the only place to move is the actual intersection, it is best to stay in place and let the emergency vehicle maneuver around your vehicle. Unless otherwise directed by law enforcemement.

Mild temps for the week

I know we have a lot of snow chances yet this season, but I think a lot of people have had some spring fever over the past several days with the warmer air that has moved-in across the Upper Midwest. There was a lot of melting going on over the weekend and for the start of this week as well.
