With 2023 just around the corner, this is a good time to share some of the options and opportunities available through Prairie Five’s Aging Well program which serves Big Stone, Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Swift, and Yellow Medicine counties. We are grateful for grants that we receive from the Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging and the Southwest Initiative Fund which will continue to fund these services in part in the new year.

In the last days of school before the holiday break, Bert Raney Elementary students were surprised to see a special visitor in the halls when they arrived to school. Ester the Elf sat perched on a ladder in the hallway after having made quite the mess. Luckily, custodian Ron was on hand to help clean up the mess Ester the Elf left behind.

Those looking for entertainment New Years Eve have the opportunity to check out a show by Granite Falls resident Logan Van Sickle at Bluenose Gopher Public House. The event will feature two silent films for the audience to enjoy, while Van Sickle simultaneously plays music.

YME defeats ACGC 80-75

Last Tuesday the Yellow Medicine East Varsity Girls basketball team traveled to Grove City to take home a victory over Atwater-Cosmos- Grove City. Leaders in the game included Hope Stark who scored 11 points, eight assists.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has some great no- and low-cost activities open to everyone. “We know Minnesotans love being outdoors, and winter offers a whole different way to play outside,” said Ann Pierce, DNR parks and trails director.

Snow impacting access to state parks, trails

Recent significant snow events are impacting winter recreation access in state parks and trails in northern Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Heavy, wet snowfall last week made many roads and trails impassable and cut power to several state parks. Additional snow and bitter cold temperatures this week further impacted conditions at some state parks and trails across Minnesota.
