We were very fortunate to have some great weather over the long Thanksgiving Weekend. On Saturday, temperatures were in the 40s and 50s across the state! Rush City hit a very warm high of 56 degrees! Windom, Hutchinson, and Jackson all topped out at 55 degrees, while Brainerd climbed to 51 degrees.
The end result of the November elections showed that voters in Yellow Medicine County had elected Stephen Emery with 1,958 votes, while incumbent Yellow Medicine County Attorney Mark Gruenes tallied 1,799 votes. However, last week, Emery declined the win.
Thursday, December 8th: The Granite Falls Senior Advisory Board along with Senior Advocate are hosting an Open House at the Granite Falls Senior Center 2-4 p.m. to celebrate the “new look”. See improvements made to the Senior Center, enjoy refreshments and sign up for the door prize (quilt made by Bev Nordang).`
Granite Area Arts Council’s Jessie Hennen held a couple of public workshops last week to help build the second annual Granite Area Arts Council fairy village. Kids and adults alike were welcome to come into the KK Berge building to help with assembly and decoration. The fairy village was set up outside of the art gallery, and the community Christmas tree lighting ceremony was held over the weekend. The tree was sponsored this year by the YES! House, and is located next to the gallery near the walking bridge entrance for visitors to enjoy, along with the Fairy Village throughout the holiday season.
When you first walk into Bluenose Gopher Public House the amount of art currently on display is staggering. There are multiple rows that stretch the entire length of the interior blue wall. James Olson, of Montevideo, is the artist behind all that art.
At last week’s meeting of the Granite Falls City Council, Outgoing Community Artist in Residence Leah Cook was in attendance to give a report on her time and work in the community. She was asked what one of her takeaways from the time was, and she said, “It’s a very unique experience to go to someone else’s hometown, and have a very short time to get to know it and then see what you can create together.
The Viking Age came to ECHO Charter School last Tuesday when Dennis Rusinco of The Viking Age Club, Lodge 517, based in Minneapolis, put on an exhibit. “Viking helms never had horns, except for ceremonial events,” Rusinco said.
