Hot weekend ahead

We enjoyed one of the nicest Memorial Day weekends in recent memory! Early on there were some indications of a slight chance of rain impacting the area, but it all tracked to our south on Memorial Day.

Notes from the Granite Area Arts Council: Tables in Motion…

This week, two of our new interns (Abby and Autumn) attended GAAC’s biweekly meeting. Already, they have been hard at work: they’re starting the gallery a TikTok, streamlining our Facebook and Instagram posts, designing eye-catching posters and signage, and (according to a smiling Tamara) “dragging us into the 21st century, kicking and screaming.”

Chicks have hatched on the DNR FalconCam

Four newly hatched chicks are now visible on the Minnesota DNR’s popular FalconCam (mndnr.gov/falconcam). The Nongame Wildlife Program’s camera is in a nesting box in downtown St. Paul and will once again provide an intimate look at peregrine falcons raising their young.

Memory Care Corner: Mixed Dementia…

Through a series of newspaper articles, we have been learning about some of the major types of dementia. We started with Alzheimer’s type dementia which is the most common type of dementia. We then explored Lewy Body dementia and learned that that can either refer to dementia with Lewy bodies or Parkinson’s disease dementia. The next article focused on Frontotemporal Dementia to which we discovered there are 5 main types: Behavioral Variant, Primary Progressive Aphasia, Corticobasal Syndrome, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, and FTD with ALS. In the last article, we explored Vascular Dementia, the second most common form of dementia. Today, we are going to learn about Mixed Dementia.

75-year recognition award for conservation

A 75-year recognition award was presented to Yellow Medicine Soil & Conservation Board Supervisors by the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources in recognition of bringing water management and conservation to the people and lands of Yellow Medicine County.
