SWCD releases state of the art public mapping tool

Yellow Medicine Soil & Water Conservation District After several years of partnership and consultation with Yellow Medicine County officials, the Yellow Medicine Soil and Water Conservation District is excited to publicly announce a virtual hub of maps and data with ties to the conservation of natural resources in our area. Simply visiting the map’s website will unlock a large amount and diverse array of GIS mapping at the click of a mouse.

New online tool shares Minnesota natural heritage data A new online tool created by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources allows users to explore Natural Heritage Information System data for both conservation planning and identifying rare resources. The Natural Heritage Review process consists of identification of rare biological resources to determine and avoid potential impacts to those importance resources.

YME takes on MACCRAY in home volleyball game

The YME Volleyball team took on MACCRAY in a home meet last Thursday for a 0-3 loss. Leaders in the game included Aria Peters who had 20 set assists, and one serving ace. Gracie Kleven also had one serving ace, four kills and five digs.

Last week my son was able to take leave (basically vacation time in the military) and travel from Fort Drum to his hometown to spend some time with family. After a 10-month deployment to the Middle East, he had a lot of photos and stories about camels and dust storms to share.

Third annual Prairie Fyre festival held on rural Wood Lake farm

Tucked away off of a highway in rural Wood Lake a micro art festival (meaning a very small festival) was held over the weekend; Prairie Fyre 2022 started at 3 pm on Saturday, September 3rd and ended on Monday, September 5th at 6 am. The art festival brought a myriad of artists from far and wide with talents that run the gamut; there was live music, spoken word poetry, live DJs spinning live techno music, drag, burlesque, and many others.
