Notes from the Granite Area Arts Council: New Community Artist in Residence Chosen

In a brisk and engaging end-of-June meeting vaguely resembling an elimination round on the show Survivor, our Advisory Board selected an artist to come to Granite Falls this August! We’re in the process of drafting a contract tailor-made for their residency; after it’s ready and hopefully signed in two weeks’ time, we’ll introduce our new artist right here. Or rather, have them do it – our chosen artist is thankfully a fantastic writer. Stay tuned.

NSP Plant set for demolition later this year

Since 2009, the building known locally as the NSP Plant has been out of commission. Xcel Energy owns the building named the Minnesota Valley Generating Plant, and has made the decision to demolish the building later this year.

A new mobile coffee business opens in Granite Falls

Krista Miller, of Granite Falls, began her work in the gourmet coffee business at the age of 15 when she started her first job at The Granite Grinder. “I worked for Lisa off and on for the last 15 years. I always wanted to open my own coffee shop, and her closing [The Grinder] kind of put a rush on that,” says Miller. “So as soon as I heard that she was closing, I kind of jumped into it right away. I thought how can I make this work?”
