Three Yellow Medicine East Track athletes recently earned Academic All-State Honors for the 2021- 22 season. In order to earn this award, the students must have a GPA higher than 3.6 and meet one of three athletic standards: 1) compete at the state track meet or 2) be all-conference in an event or 3) meet the Honor Roll Standards for competition that are determined by the coaches association (example: run faster than 11.5 100m dash for boys).
At the regular meeting of the Granite Falls City Council Monday evening, the council received the monthly report for June from Granite Falls Police Chief Brian Struffert. Struffert wrote, “The weather is warming up and so are our calls.” Struffert also noted that June was a busy month with preparations for the Fagen Fighters WWII Museum Airshow duties, as well as Western Fest.

Can you believe that fraud, errors, and abuse cost Medicare more than $60 billion last year? Medicare fraud is one of the most rampant forms of fraud in the US. There are a variety of ways it is committed and ultimately all taxpayers end up paying for the dishonesty of others. The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) began in 1997 and this year, for their 25th anniversary, they named June 5th as the start of National Medicare Fraud Prevention Week. “Blooming Beauty” by young, emerging artist Grace Haugen, is currently on display in the Emerging Artist gallery of the KK Berge building. Grace says, “It’s a journey through my life the past year, and how I have bloomed into a person that I am proud of.”
Scott Reisenbigler recently moved to Granite Falls, and with that move, he brought along his business, Scotty Biggs BBQ Company. Reisenbigler has owned a food truck and catering company for three years, but just a couple of weeks ago, traded in his original food truck for an even larger one, featuring a hard-to-miss bright orange finish.
Both Ruby Bones and Patrick Hoernemann competed well at the State Track Meet, says coach Dave Schueler. Ruby finished 14th in the high jump and Patrick finished 14th in the triple jump, meaning both were in the top 14 jumpers in the state of Minnesota. “Pretty cool!
