Steamy temperatures much of the week into weekend

It has been great to get a break from the storms since Memorial Day. However, some showers and thunderstorms did move in late Sunday night into Monday morning across parts of the state.

Notes from the Granite Area Arts Council: Art Tourism + CAIR 2.0 Finalists!

In this column: a major update! But first, a digression/road trip recommendation. If you have a few free days, want to check out another art-filled small town, and don’t mind a six-hour drive, Spring Green, Wisconsin is worth the trip. The downtown is cute, but Spring Green’s real tourist attractions are found outside the city – two massive, strange mansions in its leafy hills, Alex Jordan’s House on the Rock and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin. (I promise that this column winds back around to Granite Falls and our program updates quite soon.)

Construction progressing on Veterans Home in Montevideo

Officials from the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) visited Montevideo on Tuesday, June 7 to provide an update to local leaders and stakeholders on the status of the future Minnesota Veterans Home in Montevideo. The location is a 13.5-acre site at the intersection of William Avenue and County Road 15.

Local students graduate from Augustana University

Augustana University is extremely proud to announce the graduating Class of 2022. Of the 416 students who earned baccalaureate degrees in Academic Year 2021-22, nearly half will graduate with honors. Another 219 students earned a master’s degree from the university. The 2022 graduates hail from 10 countries, 31 states and 43 communities in South Dakota.

Exhibit featuring Minnesota cooperatives opens

The Granite Falls Area Historical Society (GFHS) will be collaborating with the Cooperative Bluenose Gopher Public House and the Granite Falls Area Arts Council (GAAC) to honor the legacy of the Cooperative Act throughout 2022.

Kayaker on 1,600 mile adventure makes local stops

Madison Eklund, from upstate New York, recently embarked on a journey to venture more than 1,600 miles by way of kayaking from Minneapolis to York Factory, Manitoba. The trip began May 7th, and will bring Eklund across three states and one Canadian province, with a 320-mile portion of that trip being upstream on the Minnesota River. This week, the journey brought Eklund to Granite Falls and Montevideo.
