Angels are intriguing. We don’t know a lot about them other than what we learn on TV or read in novels, and of course, the Bible. An important angel, named Gabriel, visited Mary, and told her she would give birth to the Savior of the World. That same angel, Gabriel, also visited Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist close to the same time Mary was visited, but almost 600 years earlier, Gabriel visited Daniel to interpret his vision for him.

River Ramblings

Time marches on and so do the inevitable changes that come with it. Long-time Granite Falls Fire Chief Craig Opdahl appeared at a recent Granite City Council meeting to give an update to the council about the fire department’s activity and needs. He was also there to introduce his successor, Ryan Haar. Craig has served as Fire Chief for about 10 years and has been a member of the Granite Falls Fire Department for 26 years and was on the Fire Department in Norwood for three years before that.

I’m writing this on a clear-blue Monday morning on a day that might just hit 60. The dog and I left bed early and drove to YME; outside the school, we met the film class and their teacher Tamara Isfeld. My dog’s job was to help the high-schoolers practice filming things in rapid motion, but also to snuggle: along with everything else happening in the world, my students in the class are grieving a big loss. It felt like a good day for a visit from a pup.

Echo Legion/First Responders Chili Feed sells out

According to American Legion Adjutant John Jones the proceeds from the Echo American Legion Post 204 chili feed fundraiser held Saturday made over $3,000 for the Echo First Responders. Police Chief notes increase in calls involving firearms

At the regular monthly meeting of the Granite Falls City Council held last Tuesday evening, rather than Monday due to the President’s Day holiday, the City Council heard a report from Police Chief Brian Struffert, which included an introduction to newly hired as fulltime officer Matthew Anderson.
