“but when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. “ 2 Corinthians 3:16

It is Monday, February 24th and I am in Arizona. Today my husband and I and a couple of our friends golfed all afternoon. It was about 82º, sunny, and no wind. I did put some sunscreen on so that this Minnesota-winter skin didn’t burn too badly. But I can definitely see that I got some good sun today. That’s what I was thinking about when I was reading the story in Exodus 34 about Moses coming down from the mountain after he received the commandments from God. The author of Exodus wrote, “When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, the skin of his face was shining, and they were afraid to come near him” (Ex. 34:30). I don’t know that Moses’ face was sunburned, but somehow his skin miraculously held the divine light of God which made him glow. It was so scary for the people to see Moses’ face that Moses put a veil over his glowing face so that the people weren’t so afraid of him—or maybe of God.

Garrison Keillor & Friends: Sunday morning, so help me God…

I seldom invite friends to come to church with me and, after Sunday’s morning service that was so deeply moving, I don’t know why. If you knew a great bakery, you’d tell people. If you read a great book, you wouldn’t keep it a secret. But off I truck to the West Side of Manhattan and in the big door past the greeters, drop my two cents in the offering plate, head altarward, stop at my pew, genuflect and bow, and take my seat.

Lakeview students host recital

Lakeview 5th grade students welcomed parents, families, students, and friends to a recital featuring the sounds of dulcimers that they created themselves. This performance was made possible by a grant from the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council, giving them the opportunity to bring in Mr. Ross Sutter, singer and musician. Mr. Sutter was with the 5th graders for a week at the beginning of February and helped them build and learn how to play their very own one-string dulcimer. The 5th graders learned various songs and will continue practicing. They will be taking their dulcimers “on tour” to perform for Fieldcrest and the Clarkfield Care Center later next week.

From the Editor’s Desk

Last weekend, my first born child returned from a deployment overseas, arriving from a warm, sandy place to upstate New York, only to be greeted with a large amount of snow, and very cold temperatures. It’s strange to be grateful for cold weather and snow, but he was.
