“Hello,” says a kid, startling me. She’s appeared on the back patio of the Bluenose Gopher; since I’m sitting down and she’s standing, her large eyes are roughly at the level of my own. Her gaze is very confident in the bright summer sun.
With the help of multiple guest writers (see below) and whimsical stranger children (see “This Happened Here”), this week’s columns basically wrote themselves -- a late-summer miracle. For more about August’s numerous artistic happenings, check out the below.

We teased this last week, and now the date is set. At 7pm (on the dot – we’re navigating various time zones and artists’ lives here) on Wednesday, July 30th, join the Arts Council and the international collective Fortune Goose to chat about their July exhibit “Bonito Pescado.”
I’d like to first make it clear that I am not a famous writer, and that this story might just be the result of sour grapes. The closest I’ve come: last July, our sketch show performed at Bryant Lake Bowl in Minneapolis. Local treasure Scott Tedrick came, took notes, and featured us on the cover of the second edition of the Yellow Medicine Arrow, the magazine he edits about happenings along 212.

Summer can be a manic time of year. I write this from a farm that is absolutely swarming with gnats despite my husband’s best efforts with a nontoxic-to-pets yard spray. The chickens have spent the day peering at us from behind the garage door, whatever brain space they possess likely occupied with wondering when the bugs will be gone. We have no answers.
