Pride of the Pacific

Despite temperatures climbing into the nineties on Saturday, a large crowd gathered for the Fagen Fighters WWII Museum’s annual Ray Fagen Memorial Airshow. This year’s theme, Pride of the Pacific, was in homage to the military planes and vehicles of WWII, and featured the planes not only from the Fagen Fighters museum but from at least three other military plane museums in the United States.

YME Parent Teacher Organization hosts Father/Daughter Dance

Last Friday, the Yellow Medicine East Parent Teacher Organization hosted a Father/Daughter Dance with a “sockhop” theme in the Bert Raney Elementary Gymnasium. The event was held for BRE students in Kindergarten through 5th grade, and was organized by volunteers who helped with concessions, making bars, registration, running the DJ booth, taking photos, running games and prizes, set up and take-down. The dance has not been held for the last couple of years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event featured snacks, raffle prizes, a photo booth, and, of course, dancing. Traveling entertainment group puts on a production of “The Magic Flute” with local actors

On Friday evening, a traveling performance group called Mixed Precipitation hosted a presentation of a multiple-volume production of the Pickup Truck Opera: The Magic Flute. The production was created by a group of four that travels around the state, and into Wisconsin to network within communities with the idea of bringing theatrical art to rural locations.

Southern Indiana-based band to make stop in Granite Falls on tour

On Friday, March 25th, Bluenose Gopher Public House is hosting a band new to playing in Minnesota. The Southern Indiana-based band, Nick Dittmeier, and the Sawdusters will be joining Rochester, Minnesota songwriter Luke Hendrickson for a performance centered on roots-oriented music. The band has toured around the United States, as well as a six-week tour across Europe in 2021. “We’ll be pretty much wherever anyone will want or have us,” Dittmeier.

Great White band to perform at Prairie’s Edge in February

As a part of the Ole & Lena Days Mid- Winter Festival, Prairie’s Edge Casino & Resort is hosting a benefit concert/ Firemen’s Dance with the bands Great White and Molly Hatchet on Saturday, Feb. 5 . Great White is a band most known for their mid-to-late 1980s hits including “Once Bitten, Twice Shy”. The Los Angeles-based band is comprised of members Mark Kendall, Audie Desbrow, Michael Lardie, Scott Snyder, and Mitch Malloy. They’ve sold around eight million records worldwide.

Comedian to perform for fundraiser

Minneapolis based Tim Harmston is scheduled to perform his stand-up comedy act at The Rock Dining & Events center as a part of the Ole & Lena Days Mid-Winter celebration fundraiser on Jan. 29. The kick-off for the week’s worth of festivities is titled “Ole and Lena Hot Havanna Nights.”
