Each week, the Advocate Tribune will share a photograph from our archives for you to “guess who”. To submit your guesses, send us a message by email to jstolen-jacobson@cherryroad.com or message our Facebook page. We will publish the answers the next week.
Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the salon for River Valley Ripple artist Sierra Kallio, who’d been occupying a YES! House apartment for three weeks, holed up with a lot of recycled materials (scavenged from local bins + donated to her, more on that below) to craft paintings and a film. The house was packed.
[Welcome to the words of our first guest columnist! Johanna Luetmer, a writer, musician, and child development expert who currently lives in St. Paul, has graciously agreed to share this tale of a cozy Minnesota afternoon turned harrowing. Enjoy.]
Now through March while supplies last: YME Plant Sale at the Granite Area Arts Council gallery. Payment is cash or check - freewill donation. Open Tuesday through Saturday.

[Note: I’m sounding like a broken record here, but the guest column I was excited to run now needs a little more time to make edits… so hello, it’s Jessie Hennen again, writing to you with a thing that happened in Marshall this week. Other voices are coming soon, I promise. Got an idea of your own? Send it to Jessie.rose.hennen (at) gmail.com!]
I am a glutton for punishment, so I’ll be spending this week’s spring break working. However, rather than scheduling visiting writers’ events, grading papers, and giving students begrudging extensions, I will be crafting my own fiction … as a mini-resident-artist at the YES! House Tuesday through Sunday. Hooray!

Last week in this space, I may have jumped the gun: the first guest columnist – my Creative Nonfiction Workshop student – has asked me to hold off on printing her piece until later in the month. Not to worry, though; coming up next week, a thrilling tale of living on a farm from the poet and performer Johanna Luetmer, who grew up in Morris and has stories to share.
