Granite Falls Chamber of Commerce April Showers bring May flowers! Everything is greening up, and everyone, including myself, is planning on digging in the dirt soon. By the time you read this, the Kiwanis Popcorn stand will be open for the season. Popcorn and 1919 Root Beer are available every night.

Hoffman and Brobst held its workplace campaign to benefit United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN). Staff had the opportunity to make a one-time donation or a payroll deduction to support the local work of UWSWMN. Employees contributed $2,285 and Hoffman and Brobst made an additional investment of $2,085 for a total campaign of $4,370.

Sixteen years worth of effort to have a Veteran’s Home built in Montevideo has culminated in the completion of the project late this summer. On Tuesday morning, National American Legion Auxiliary President Vickie Koutz, of Indiana, traveled to Montevideo to meet with State personnel, as well as local community members involved with the project to tour progress on the construction of the facility.

The newest exhibit open in the Granite Area Arts Council gallery is called “Chiaroscuro”, pronounced “kee·aa•ruh·skyur·ow” - an Italian artistic term to describe the arrangement of light and dark, darkness and light together. The exhibit is entirely photographs of local community members in designed sets and costumes.

Local Minnesotan Luke Hendrickson is coming to play at Bluenose Gopher Public House on Thursday, May 18th starting at 7 p.m. for a special show with fellow musician Jason Evans (of Kentucky).
