Minnesota Valley Area Learning Center student elected to leadership role

In the state of Minnesota, there exists a teacher- led organization among alternative school educators called Minnesota Association of Alternative Programs (MAAP). A part of MAAP includes a student focused program called MAAP Stars, in which students from alternative learning programs throughout the state can participate in challenges involving real life scenarios, and work together in leadership roles towards opportunities for refining life skills. The student group additionally works to educate the public, and elected representatives on what alternative education is and why it is important.

Notes from the Granite Area Arts Council

If you’re reading this, unfortunate news: by the time this paper goes to print, our community artist-in-residence Leah Cook will have left Granite Falls. The upside is that since her goodbye party will already have happened at the Rock on Tuesday, I can safely share that we gave her a whole bunch of sock puppets as a going-away present (unless, of course, I forgot them at home – always a possibility).

Yesterday I was “supervising” some work in the basement – keeping my friend company who was trying to figure out a water drainage issue. I don’t hang on to a lot of things but since I started writing in journals six years ago, I’ve kept all of them in a bookshelf.

If you Google just videos of “how to find peace,” you will find over 97 million results, and on Bing you will find almost 10 billion results. Results that talk about the process of meditation, what to give up, things you should start doing, things you should stop doing, the list goes on and on.
