Council discusses change order for hydro plant

At Monday evening’s meeting of the Granite Falls City Council, one of the topics of discussion was a change order for the hydro plant project. Chris Anderson presented the proposed change order for structural reinforcement of a downstream wall at the city’s hydro plant, explaining, “It’s aged. There’s some structural issues. There’s some moisture that’s getting behind the wall.” Upon further investigation, Anderson noted that the concrete blocks previously thought to be hollow were actually filled. The revised plan involves structurally reinforcing the wall which would include some additional concrete and anchoring of the wall itself.

Zempel hosts event to encourage solutions to keep riverfronts free of trash

On Saturday, Nicole Zempel of Wild Roots MN hosted an event at The YES! House to talk about solutions for helping to keep riverfronts free of fishing refuse and other litter. Zempel, inspired by her fathers example of taking a trash bucket along while fishing, also provided attendees with a project painting trash buckets to be distributed for those fishing the riverfront. Zempel is also planning a trash clean-up effort for volunteers from the community to help clean-up trash at Memorial Park. On display will be some interesting items Zempel found during past clean-ups. Zempel also sampled a recipe featuring bass for those in attendance.
