Cooler temps for the weekend

We were very fortunate to have some great weather over the long Thanksgiving Weekend. On Saturday, temperatures were in the 40s and 50s across the state! Rush City hit a very warm high of 56 degrees! Windom, Hutchinson, and Jackson all topped out at 55 degrees, while Brainerd climbed to 51 degrees.

Research has shown that exercising daily brings tremendous benefits to our health, including an increase in lifespan, lowering of risk of diseases, higher bone density, and weight loss. Try to increase the activity in your life, and choose walking over transport for close distances. Climb the stairs instead of taking the elevator, join an aerobics class, or a dance class. Pick exercises that you enjoy! When you enjoy a sport, you naturally want to do it. Exercise isn’t about suffering and pushing yourself; it’s about being healthy and having fun at the same time. Adding variation in your exercises will keep them interesting!

Conceptual photography exhibit coming to Emerging Artist gallery

Corina Kells, of Madison, has been enthralled with photography since she was a young girl. She is the next artist to be featured in the KK Berge building’s Emerging Artist Gallery at the end of January 2023 through the end of February 2023. Kells grew up in the 1990s and says she was that friend who always had a disposable camera in hand at the ready. Kells reflected fondly about the days gone by when she’d bring the disposable cameras to Thrifty White and the anticipation of getting the developed photos back.

New historic marker in Granite Falls honors Nellie Volstead

Many in the local area have heard about Andrew Volstead and his work in the prohibition, but at the same time as that work was taking place in the early 1900s, Volstead’s wife Nellie was working on the Women’s Suffrage Movement. “The prohibition women and the suffrage movement women were a lot of times the same group of women,” says Granite Falls Historical Society Board Member Mary Gillespie.

Yellowstone Trail master plan presented

Last week, a meeting was held at both the Montevideo Public Library, and Bird Island Cultural Centre to reveal the Yellowstone Trail Master Plan. The plan came about when the Renville County Historical Society partnered with the Yellowstone Trail Alliance of Western Minnesota to apply for a Cultural Heritage Partnership grant from the Minnesota Historical Society. Since receiving the $54,000 grant, the group has been working to develop a state-wide Yellowstone Trail Master Plan.
