Minnesota West Community & Technical College, announces the Spring Semester 2022 Dean’s List and congratulates the following students for their outstanding academic achievement. Students must be enrolled in at least 12 graded credits and earn a minimum 3.5 grade point average to be eligible for Dean’s List Honors. Southwest Minnesota State University announces the students recognized for academic achievement during the spring 2022 semester. An undergraduate student who completes 12 or more A-F graded credits and achieves a grade point average of 3.5 or higher will be considered for the Honors Dean’s List.

At the regular meeting of the Granite Falls City Council Monday evening, the council received the monthly report for June from Granite Falls Police Chief Brian Struffert. Struffert wrote, “The weather is warming up and so are our calls.” Struffert also noted that June was a busy month with preparations for the Fagen Fighters WWII Museum Airshow duties, as well as Western Fest.
Musician Crista Bohlman, from Mankato, will be the next artist providing live music at the next Makers Market on the Riverwalk in Granite Falls on Thursday, July 7th, 2022. Bohlman has been creating and performing music since she was just three years old, when she began playing the violin at New Ulm’s Schell Brewery with Paula Marti.
Alexander Dayne Phillippi, 34, made a first appearance in Yellow Medicine County District Court Friday to face charges of third-degree burglary, as well as first-degree criminal property damages. According to the criminal complaint, the charges are a result of a break-in at the Family Foods grocery store in Clarkfield, as well as property damage to a parked plumbing van that happened currently this week.

On 6/19/22 at 5:29 PM Granite Falls Fire Department was dispatched by Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office on a request by Renville County Sheriff’s Office to respond to a possible drowning occurring in the Minnesota River at Vicksburg County Park. Nearby water resources were simultaneously working a separate recovery operation down river.
On Friday evening, the YES House hosted “Sunrise at Midnight”, a traveling four-person production created by Taous Claire Khazem. The production was a 45 minute act, based on folktales from the mountain regions of Algeria. In the program, Khazem writes, “In 2008, I went to Algeria (where my father is from) and worked with a group of eight actresses in Bejaia. We went into the mountains and collected folktales from old women, then created a show based on three of those stories. During that period, I came across other folktales that had been translated into French. They were raunchy, violent and full of twists and turns.” Khazem’s production was created in 2017, and in 2020, the small troupe began a tour of Minnesota with the act.
