On March 12th, the annual Ag in the Classroom event was held at the Minnesota West campus in Granite Falls. Each year in March, Yellow Medicine County Farm Bureau hosts the event that allows for 4th grade students from area schools to gather with local commodity groups, electric industry representatives and farm safety instructors. This year, seven schools including Montevideo, Lakeview and YME attended, bringing more than 300 students to the venue to meet with the five commodity groups. Each group hosts a 20 minute session of educational information.

Last week, Yellow Medicine East FFA students assisted in the annual Ag in the Classroom event held by Yellow Medicine County Farm Bureau at Minnesota West’s Granite Falls Campus. That’s just one of many activities the FFA (Future Farmers of America) students participate in annually. Officers Abbie Winter (Historian), Jack Jaenisch (Vice President), and Kiley Meyer (President) share their experiences in FFA, as well as advice to younger students considering joining.
American Legion National Commander James A. LaCoursiere Jr. of Connecticut is coming to Granite Falls and will speak on issues of importance to Minnesota veterans. LaCoursiere is strongly committed to raising awareness for The American Legion’s “Be the One” efforts to prevent veteran suicide.
On Saturday, March 22nd, the Granite Falls Public Library is hosting an event to launch its new Seed Library.
At Monday evening’s meeting of the City Council, City Engineer Mike Amborn of Rodeberg & Berryman, Inc, was in attendance to provide an update on the proposed bike trail improvements along County Road 5. The trail project was awarded a grant in 2021 through the Minnesota Department of Transportation Alternatives (TA) Program. The federal grant is administered through MnDOT for projects intended to improve pedestrian transportation infrastructure.

The Custom Made Band has been playing together for about 20 years bringing their “Musical Memories Tour” throughout the area. The band’s multi-genre playlist includes classic rock and country from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. The trio consists of Steve Mahlum from Sacred Heart playing guitar, Kris Nelson-Jensen from Willmar on bass and Jay Skrukrud of Kandyohi on drums. Combined, the trio has over 145 years of music and band experience that they share at a variety of venues in the area.
