Two in custody after two separate events over weekend

On 8/10/25 at approximately 4:40pm, The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office received a report of threatened assault at the residence of 401 Cynthia Street in Maynard, Mn. The report stated a vehicle drove past the residence and the known driver to the victim brandished a firearm in his direction. The driver, Craig Bellis, age 45, was arrested at Prairie’s Edge Casino later in the evening. Bellis is in Yellow Medicine County Jail at this time.

Local Hospital Leader Recognized by Minnesota Hospital Association

CCM Health is proud to announce that Board Member David Lieser has been recognized by the Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) for successfully completing MHA’s trustee certification program. Active weather pattern through the weekend

We started off the week with more smoke from Canada. We had yet another period of smoky conditions as we experienced much of the region dealing with an Air Quality Alert. I saw that if the Air Quality index is 150, it is “comparable to smoking up to seven cigarette a day!” No wonder it can have such an impact for those with lung disease and heart issues.

Farmers Gather in Madison to Discuss ‘Bringing Small Grains Back to Minnesota’

“Welcome to my midlife crisis,” joked Peter Haugen on a Saturday morning in early August as a couple dozen farmers stood in a semi-circle around him and his wife, Brittany, at the edge of a 12-acre field south of Madison. The “crisis” Peter was referring to was what was growing in that field: emmer wheat, an ancient variety of grain sought after by specialty bakers. Over the hill was a 15-acre stand of einkorn wheat and down the road was a bright yellow stand of oats. Surrounding all these fields were crops more typically found in this part of the Midwest: corn and soybeans.

Archery in the Parks at Lac qui Parle State Park

Archery in the Parks is hands-on instruction shooting a bow and arrow from certified instructors in a safe and supportive environment. Aim for a family adventure with kid-friendly equipment designed for beginners aged 8 and older. Children age 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. All equipment is provided. Personal archery equipment is not allowed. This program is run as a stop by, first come first served program.
