The Minnesota Valley Community Concert Association (MVCCA) has worked for over sixty years to bring music and cultural experiences to West Central Minnesota. This exposure to quality performances supports, promotes and enriches music learning and appreciation. MVCCA Board and membership wishes to share with the community their passion for a variety of entertainment ranging from classical to choral to tribute acts to comedy and much more.
August is National Wellness Month, a time to focus on self-care, stress management, and building healthy habits that support overall well-being. In our busy lives, it’s easy to put ourselves last, but caring for our physical, mental, and emotional health is essential—not a luxury. Even small, intentional steps toward wellness can boost energy, improve resilience, and help us show up as our best selves for the people and commitments that matter most. This month invites us to pause, reflect, and invest in ourselves.
Question: It seems like we have been seeing a fair amount of rain along with flash flood warnings. Can you talk about what motorists should do if they encounter such a thing?

On 8/10/25 at approximately 4:40pm, The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office received a report of threatened assault at the residence of 401 Cynthia Street in Maynard, Mn. The report stated a vehicle drove past the residence and the known driver to the victim brandished a firearm in his direction. The driver, Craig Bellis, age 45, was arrested at Prairie’s Edge Casino later in the evening. Bellis is in Yellow Medicine County Jail at this time.
We started off the week with more smoke from Canada. We had yet another period of smoky conditions as we experienced much of the region dealing with an Air Quality Alert. I saw that if the Air Quality index is 150, it is “comparable to smoking up to seven cigarette a day!” No wonder it can have such an impact for those with lung disease and heart issues.
The Renville County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is now accepting applications for no-till/strip-till, fall cover crops, and other United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Soil Health practices.
Over the weekend, the annual Upper Sioux Community traditional Wacipi was held. The event is a cultural tradition that includes the gathering of generations to celebrate life, pride and honor. The word “Wacipi” means “they dance” in Dakota Language.
Bluenose Gopher Public House hosted its 5th annual Bluenose Gopher 50 Gravel Road Bike Race on Saturday, July 26th. The event was made possible by a group of volunteers and sponsors, The YES! House, FM Bank, The Bike Shop Marshall, Grandview Valley Winery, MN Trails Magazine. Prizes were awarded to the top three finishers by The Bike Shop, Marshall. Winners were as follows:
