Minnesota’s own Tanner Aus, 8x Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Qualifier, won his sixth American Heroes PRCA Rodeo with an 82-point ride aboard Universal Pro Rodeos’ Blueberry Special. The Granite Falls native secured a $1,173 payday. Aus won Rodeo Austion (Texas) earlier this year, repeating his title in back-to-back wins and making it his third overall since 2017. Aus, a veteran cowboy with a rodeo resume including career wins at Cheyenne Frontier Days, Calgary Stampede and The American is a home state favorite. He was a featured interview during the weather report with Russ Thomas on Valley News Live.
Granite Falls is gearing up for another exciting Western Fest, and at the heart of the festivities is the long-standing Western Fest Royalty program—a 76 year tradition that highlights leadership, community service, and local pride.

Beginning July 1, 2025, more people who operate motorboats or personal watercrafts on Minnesota waters must obtain a valid watercraft operator’s permit. The updated requirements, passed into law during 2023, are intended to make boating safer by ensuring people operating motorized watercraft know the rules and are properly trained.
There have been a couple of changes announced to the Western Fest Schedule. Those changes are as follows:
Despite the dry conditions, sunshine, and pleasant temperatures over the weekend, we dealt with smoke from Canadian wildfires once again. We had an Air Quality Alert in effect over the weekend through Monday evening for most of the state.
Question: I have been receiving text messages about an “E-Z Pass Final Reminder.” It’s something about having an outstanding toll and submitting payment. I was told it was a scam. Can you get me more information on this?
Last week, Yellow Medicine East High School hosted the 11th annual Cords and Awards Ceremony to recognize student accomplishments from the 2024-25 school year. Honors awarded included the Archie Bush Foundation Legacy Scholarship Recipients, Lions Club Honors, Minnesota Honor Society Members, Craftsman of the Year, Most Outstanding Student winners, senior class honor roll awards, and the official recognition of the class of 2025 Valedictorian and Salutatorian.
We saw some frost over the weekend and earlier this week in parts of Minnesota. It always is a gamble this time of the year as the temperatures can range from the 80s and 90s for highs, to the 20s and 30s for overnight lows. Many people had to cover their plants or bring them inside earlier this week.
