YME awards 28 scholarships

Over the weekend, the Scholarship Yellow Medicine East Awards Banquet was held, honoring the hard work and achievements of our graduating seniors. This year, 28 Yellow Medicine East students who applied were awarded a combined total of over $89,000 in scholarships to support their post-secondary education.

Granite Falls-Based Yellow Medicine County Chemical Health Coalition joins national Prevention Week celebrations across the country

On May 11-17, the Yellow Medicine County Chemical Health Coalition will join communities across the country in celebrating the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) National Prevention Week 2025 to increase public awareness of, and action around, mental health and substance misuse disorders.

Live Well, Age Wisely: Using SNAP Makes Good Sense…

When I began working at Prairie Five in 2018, one of the first trainings I attended was for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP.) I was shocked to learn that our region had one of the largest discrepancies between the number of people who were eligible for SNAP and the number who were actually accessing and using it. There were thousands of dollars going unused each month and I thought a lot about what it would mean not just for individuals to have a little more wiggle room in their monthly food budgets but also to our local grocery stores to have those dollars being spent.
