A 1987 YME graduate, Robbi Peterson, leaves this Saturday from his home in West Chicago to travel overseas to take part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, taking the Flame of Hope across northern Italy in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
At the February 11th meeting of the Yellow Medicine County Board of Commissioners, Pastor Don McKee was in attendance on behalf of an organization in Montevideo that is currently in the process of raising funds for a transitional housing facility planned to open in Montevideo to serve the surrounding communities.

Last Saturday night, Handeen and Associates, led by Milan area musician Malena Handeen took the stage at Bluenose Gopher Public House for the last time for a free performance. The venue posted an announcement to social media February 6th that stated, in part, “These types of announcements are never easy. After 6 years of operation, we are closing Bluenose Gopher Public House. The Public House has been a center of art, music, creativity and community events in our little corner of the state. We have been blessed by so many wonderful artists and musicians over the years! To our volunteers and employees, past and current, we can’t express how much you mean to us. To the members and patrons who frequented Bluenose, we want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Your support and the community you built will forever be appreciated! The last day for the Public House will be Saturday, February 22.” The last opportunities to catch live local musicians performing with no cover charge at the venue happen this Friday night with a performance by Charlie Shivers from 7-9 p.m., and Saturday night with a performance by Flute Loops from 7-10 p.m.
At Monday evening’s meeting of the Yellow Medicine East Board of Education, Bert Raney Elementary Principal Lisa Hansen provided the board with updates from the elementary. In her report, Hansen noted that February is national Random Acts of Kindness month. “Our social workers have been busy working on projects. Our staff members fill out what they call a ‘kindness catcher card’ and the students get to share their random acts of kindness with the class, and then those cards are hung up around the school,” Hansen said. “I really appreciate the social workers doing that. It’s definitely a day brightener.”

It was a cold start to the week. Most locations in central, west central, and northern Minnesota fell from 15 below to 25 below zero Monday night into Tuesday morning. Thankfully the winds were light, but there was still a Cold Weather Advisory posted for some locations in the region.

At last weeks meeting of the Granite Falls City Council, MNPAiR artists Tamara Isfeld and John Sterner were in attendance to provide the council with an overview of the work they have been doing towards an art installation that will be housed in Memorial Park.
