Council approves bid for liquor store improvement project

At Monday evening’s meeting of the Granite Falls City Council, the council reviewed bids for the liquor store remodel project. There were two bids submitted, with the lowest bid being from Hasslen, of Ortonville at a total of $150,000, which was $55,600 lower than the next highest base bid received. The total estimated cost of the project was $116,168. The council voted to accept the bid from Hasslen.

Kiwanis Popcorn Stand open for 106th consecutive season

The Granite Falls Kiwanis Popcorn Stand opened for the season on Prentice Street May 1st for its 106th consecutive season. The Popcorn Stand originally opened in 1919 under the ownership of Fred and Julius Ernston, and was acquired, after a series of various owners, by the Kiwanis Club of Granite Falls in 2003. The Kiwanis Club, as a public entity, uses all funds raised to donate to youth organizations and youth activities in the community. The Popcorn Stand is open every night from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. throughout the summer.
