Charlene “Char” Gullickson, 72, of Granite Falls passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Avera Granite Falls Care Center in Granite Falls. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Interment will be held a later date. Charlene Louise Gullickson was born on August 6, 1950, to Lyle and Florence (Dagel) Ulven in Redwood Falls. She grew up in Belview and was baptized on September 10, 1950, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Granite Falls. Char graduated from Granite Falls High School. After high school, she attended Ridgewater College in Willmar and got her Human Service Technician Degree.

She started working at Onward Services in 1992; she worked there for almost 30 years and absolutely loved her job. Char met Robert Gullickson in Belview at a young age and the two got married on January 22, 1966, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, S.D. They made their home in Granite Falls and were blessed with three children, Julie, Todd, and Andrea. Char enjoyed Friday night bowling league with the ladies and acquired quite the collection of trophies. She enjoyed arts and crafts, cooking, and baking. She also took disco dancing lessons for fun. Robert and Char loved to go camping and fishing with the family. They also loved to go out dancing together wherever there was a live band and cleared many dance floors. They were known for their dancing skills. Char lived life through her Lutheran faith. She was strong, kind, and empathetic. Char’s passion was being a caretaker for work and family. She loved hosting many gatherings for her family and friends. Her family, especially the grandkids, was her world, and she was always looking forward to family time. Char is survived by her children, Julie (Steve) Schwantes of Belview, Todd (Lisa) Gullickson of Granite Falls, Andrea Gullickson of Glenwood; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; siblings, Sandra (Bob) Manahan of Star Prairie, Wis., Curtis (significant other, Judy) Ulven of Redwood Falls; sister-inlaw, Lorna Ulven of Granite Falls; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family. Char is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Lyle and Florence; and brother, Dennis Ulven. Arrangements were with Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Granite Falls.
