Gary Alan Holtan was born September 26, 1943, the son of Russell & Laurine (Gruenenwald) Holtan, in Minneapolis. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Gary graduated from the Dawson High School. He served his country in the Minnesota Army National Guard.

Gary was united in marriage to Marie Johnson on October 15, 1977, at Tyro Lutheran Church near Boyd, Minnesota. He was employed at Plews Manufacturing as a machinist. Gary enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and always put his family first. He also enjoyed time spent with family and friends watching the Minnesota Vikings.

Gary passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was 78 years of age.

He is survived by his wife Marie; children: James (Ana) Holtan of Montevideo and Jennifer Holtan (Christopher Lorenzen) of Raymond; grandchildren: Jenesus, Jeneva, Annabelle, Koltan and Eli; brother, Robert (Elsie) Holtan of Perham and several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
