Marvin Laverne Kortgard

 Marvin Laverne Kortgard, 92, of Glenwood, formerly of Sacred Heart, died Friday, September 2, 2022, at his home in Glenwood Estates in Glenwood. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 9, 2022, at 2 p.m. in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart. The Rev. Michelle Kleene will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Sacred Heart. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville.

 Marvin Laverne Kortgard was born on November 22, 1929, on the family farm east of Sacred Heart to Gilbert and Emma (Frosley) Kortgard. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Sacred Heart. Following his father’s death, Marvin took over the farm. He was united in marriage to Beverly Imes on June 12, 1948, in Minneapolis. He continued farming and also worked various other jobs in the area including Plews Manufacturing in Granite Falls and later at the Yellow Medicine Court House. After retiring, Marvin and Beverly moved to their cabin on Lake Minnewaska. They later built their home there and lived there until moving to Glenwood Estates a few years ago. Marvin took great pride in everything he did. He kept a beautiful garden and lawn, and kept his cars immaculate. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren.
 He is survived by his sons and their spouses: Vern (and Vicky) Kortgard of Willmar, Jerry (and Kristin) Kortgard of Excelsior, and Del (and Paula) Kortgard of Granite Falls, his son-in-law Pete Kuiken of Starbuck; his eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
 He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Beverly, his daughter Jodi, and his four sisters.
