Mavis Lewis, 95, of Granite Falls passed away Sunday, July 31, 2022, at the Granite Falls Health Care Center. Memorial services were held on Tuesday, August 9 at 11 a.m. at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Visitation was held one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements with Wing-Bain Funeral Home.
Mavis Claire Lewis, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was born on February 19. 1927, to Peter James and Mary Anita Pierson in Wegdahl. She was the youngest of seven. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in Granite Falls.
Mavis graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1945. She continued her education and graduated with honors from Prospect Hall, a private secretarial school for girls in Milwaukee, Wis. in 1946.
She married her high school sweetheart, Stanford LeRoy Lewis on June 5, 1949, at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. They were voted “Most Faithful” in the Midget (school paper) for their Senior Survey.
As a member of GFLC, she was active in the Altar guild, WELCA, Prayer Group, and the Mission Committee. She taught Sunday School and served on the Board of Trustees. She was a Hospice Volunteer, and a member of Study Club, Red Hats, American Legion Auxiliary and Granite Falls Golf Club.
Mavis worked at various positions at the Granite Falls Medical Center, and was the Clinic Manager the last 17 years that she worked. She was honored by the Granite Falls Chamber of Commerce as Employee of the Year in 1985.
She loved the time spent with family and enjoyed traveling to many different parts of the world. Travel highlights were The Passion Play in Oberammergau, cruising the fiords in Norway, walking in the sand along the Mediterranean Sea and taking a helicopter ride over the Na Pali Coast in Kauai.
Mavis passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at the Granite Falls Health Care Center. She was 95 years of age.
She is survived by son, Steven and wife, Leslie and daughter, Mary Kay and husband Tom; two granddaughters: Alissa, husband Robert, and Whitney; great-granddaughters Poppy and Rosie; step-grandchildren: Ashley (Mike), Jen (Rob), Jason, Katie (Patrick) and step-great-grandchildren: Jasper, Asher, June, Lane and Charlotte; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband, Stanford in 1978, her parents, one brother and five sisters, several nieces and nephews.
