Little Red Bookshelves have been spreading across the area and have been making their homes in a variety of offices and local businesses. Countryside Public Health of Granite Falls is the latest organization to become the home to one of these unique Little Red Bookshelves. These bookshelves are a part of a project sponsored by the Untied Way of Southwest Minnesota that places an enormous emphasis on children’s literacy through these miniature libraries.
The little red bookshelves provide free access to children’s literature for area residents. Children are invited to read books from the bookshelves and are also even welcome to take home a book, if they wish to do so. According to the United Way, these bookshelves are being put up all across the region to foster a love of reading while providing access to all children in the area.
Books available are focused on age groups ranging from birth to 5th grade. The books in these little bookshelves are donated, new, or gently-used books and often foreign language books can be found at the shelves. The Little Red Bookshelves are often placed where children and families are bound to visit, as well.
