Travis Lee Johnson, 36, of Denison, Iowa, and formerly of Clarkfield, passed away on January 9, 2017, in Omaha, Nebraska, after a brave three month battle that began as a brain infection. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Clarkfield Lutheran Church in Clarkfield. Visitation was held on Friday, January 13 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Clarkfield Lutheran Church and for one hour before the service at the church.
Travis was born on February 4, 1980, in Montevideo, to LaVern and Rebecca “Becky” (Willander) Johnson. He attended elementary and Jr. High in Clarkfield and graduated in 1998 from Yellow Medicine East High School in Granite Falls. He then attended Alexandria Technical College where he graduated with a degree in Accounting. Travis decided to work for the family business, Johnson Transport, as a truck driver and eventually moved with the company to Denison, IA.
He later worked for his brother at Trevor Enterprise driving truck and running heavy equipment. Travis loved driving truck and decided to go over the road where he drove all over the country taking pictures of the beautiful sites as he went.
He always had his guitar with and spent his downtime learning songs and playing guitar. Travis had a passion for music and riding his Harley Davidson with friends. His love of guitar started when he took guitar lessons at an early age. He spent hours learning and playing songs. He also taught himself to play the drums. He was briefly in a band while he was in high school which made his parents very proud, especially his dad, who loved to go out and dance. His other interest included hunting and fishing. He also surprised his family with his interest in cooking and finding projects on Pinterest to decorate his apartment.
He will be remembered the most for his sense of humor. He loved to tease his cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends, and wasn’t afraid to say ANYTHING. That usually meant he was the life of the party or any room he was in. Travis had made a comment to a friend once that when he came home for family gatherings, he made sure that everyone was laughing and having fun before he would leave; then his job was fulfilled.
Travis is survived by his mother Rebecca “Becky” Johnson of Willmar; sister, Tracy and her husband Scott Lundy of Willmar; brother, Trevor and his wife Mandi Johnson of Denison, IA; grandmother, Gloria Johnson of Clarkfield; grandparents: William and Patricia Willander of Clarkfield. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and many friends.
