The Memorial Park Board met with the architects that have been working on plans for Phase 1 of the massive undertaking to improve the park.

The campground side will get a significantly improved parking area with designated spaces and a walking path. There was a lengthy discussion for the layout of the restroom/shower area, eventually deciding on a design with two “suite” style restroom + shower combo and one restroom without a shower. There were some concerns about lengthy wait times when people take long showers, and custodial access to the bathrooms.

The park entrance improvements include crosswalk striping, a rapid flashing beacon, and ADA truncated domes.

Another popular addition is a porta-potty screen.

There was also discussion about renovating the shelter building. The lower level electric panel is aged and was recommended to be replaced. There is also a pit in the basement that needs to get filled. The lower level doors need to be replaced. The next steps include the architects taking the comments from the meeting and add them to the construction documents. They will be discussed at a city council meeting some time in March or April.

The estimated total costs were $557,201, with alternates the cost is $623,405. Potentially, construction will start in July and be hopefully finished by Nov. 30th. Phase 2 of the project is approved pending State Legislation.
