The first of the Chamber's monthly series, ”Business Breakfast," was held on Tues., March 13 at Prairie’s Edge Casino Convention Center. Thank you to Prairie’s Edge for sponsoring this event. It was exciting to hear about all the plans for public art in Granite Falls! Tamara Isfeld spoke about the ongoing Riverside Voices flood wall mural. The next opportunity to participate and share your ideas for this summer's flood wall project will be held at the K.K. Berge building on Sat., March 24 at 1 p.m. pizza and drinks will be served.

This is part of a series of Writers' Workshop opportunities which are free and open to the public–you don't have the be a "writer" to participate. If you love to write, want to learn to write, share ideas, like to tell stories, share thoughts about the world and be a part of our growing art community, these workshops are for you! Everybody has to start somewhere. As we work on the Riverside Voices Art Project along the river, we are looking for people to participate in the creation of the public art. This past fall, a mural was painted on a portion of the flood wall as a "taste" of what is to come for the downtown river walk. Another major element of this public art will be the written word and that is where you come in. Words are powerful and the words of a community paint pictures/create feelings of what that community is like and what we project to the outside world that comes to visit and enjoy.

At the Breakfast, Ashley Hanson described her work with public art and her past experiences working with the St Paul City Artist in Residence program. The Granite Falls City Artist in Residence program was approved by the city council and is now in the funding stage with plans to have actual artists working with the city by next year. It seems the art scene in Granite Falls is just expanding by leaps and bounds! It all started with the Granite Area Arts Council and the K.K. Berge building, stop in and see the latest exhibit by John Sterner and check out the gift shop too featuring local artists.

Next month's Business Breakfast on Tues., April 10 will also be held at Prairie’s Edge featuring a presentation by Granite Falls Health about their new hospital plans. These events will take place the second Tuesday of each month from 7:30 to 9 a.m., mark your calendars!
