LuVerne “Vern” Kenneth Schewe was born May 27, 1935 at Essix, the son of Leslie and Myrtle (Bedow) Schewe. He went to grade school in Arco and graduated from Ivanhoe High School in 1954. He was a farm kid and loved working with his dad on the farm. He played football, was in tumbling and played the guitar. He met the love of his life, Donna, in Canby. It was his car that wooed her . . . and his good looks. They were married at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Canby on June 24, 1956. Vern worked for Deitz and Crow in Canby, Knutson Brothers Plumbing in Granite Falls, Thorson Construction in Tracy and Minnesota Valley Construction for over 30 years. After a well-deserved retirement, he worked at Gilby’s Car Wash. Everyone knew Vern for his nice, clean trucks and cars. He was also a volunteer fire fighter and a member of the Civil Defense in Canby in the early 1960s.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; two sons: Ken Schewe of Balaton and Todd (Dawnial) Schewe of Montevideo; two daughters: Pam Schewe (Jon) of Montevideo and Susan (Rick) Crosson of Osceola, WI; fourteen grandchildren: Eliza, Christina, Dillon, Corey, Kayla, Rochelle, Matthew, Nicole, Hank, Levi, Trey, Melissa, Tommy, and Crystal; fourteen great-grandchildren; his nephew, Keith (Judy) Webber, who was more like a brother, and nieces and nephews.
