Kenny Peterson, 92, of Granite Falls, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Granite Falls Municipal Hospital. A gathering of friends and family will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls. Burial will take place in the St. George Catholic Cemetery in Hartford, South Dakota. Kenneth “Kenny” Christian Peterson was born on February 8, 1927, in Hartford, South Dakota, the son of Christian and Anna (Hoeg) Peterson. He was baptized in the Christian faith and grew up and attended school in Hartford, South Dakota.

At the young age of 18, Kenny joined the United States Navy. He proudly served his country in the Navy where he learned and mastered his cooking skills. Upon Kenny’s honorable discharge, he continued to serve in the Naval Reserves for many years. Kenny was united in marriage to Florence M. (Gillen) Pfeiffer in 1953. Kenny owned and operated several restaurants, eventually partnering with the Tjosvold family in Granite Falls where they owned and operated the Valley Supper Club.

Kenny loved to cook and visit with people. He took great pride in his cooking skills and his talents are well known in the Granite Falls area. Kenny loved spending time at his cabin on Lake Traverse and enjoyed fishing. Later his idea of fishing changed to watching his pole from the comfort of the cabin living room. Kenny also enjoyed playing cards (poker) with his friends.

Kenny is survived by his stepson, Dennis (Janet) Pfeiffer of Aventura, FL; his granddaughter, Crystal (Duaine) McIntyre of Sammamish, WA; his grandson, Scott (Jaimie) Pfeiffer of Redmond, WA; five great granddaughters; his brother, Manny Peterson of Indianapolis, IN; sister-in-law, Janis Peterson of Hartford, SD; his dear friend, Dale Johnson of Granite Falls; as well as extended family and friends. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Anna Peterson; his wife, Florence; four brothers and two sisters. In lieu of floral arrangements, Kenny’s family respectfully requests memorial be given to the donor’s choice.
